Principles of Building Envelope Design
Continuity is king when it comes to designing a building envelope. In order to create a successful design, there must be continuity in all aspects of the building facade including movement joints, facade components, their functions, and more.
There are so many details that can easily be overlooked, especially when a project is on a tight budget. When it comes time to compromise between long-term and initial costs, a design might become easily compromised in favor of keeping the project “economical.” But this can cause grave errors. These often missed details and some of the errors they might cause are illustrated in more depth in Karol Kazmierczak’s article: Principles of Building Enclosure Design.
